Vocal Fusion sings in Concert with Citi UK Choir in Amberley in December 2018
Ken Burton, regular judge on TVs Choir of the Year, to feature in Amberley choral concert.
Add Ken Burton, one of the regular judges on TVs ‘Choir of the Year’ to a group of 35 singers from two choirs and you have a recipe for an amazing grand finale at a concert to be held in Amberley on 2nd December at 4 pm. Citi UK choir (finalists in BBC’s ‘Sing while you work’) and Steyning based barbershop group ‘Vocal Fusion’ will sing a mix of warm harmonies across popular, classical, modern and gospel music.
Two Amberley residents, Ginny Airey of Citi UK choir and Jeff Feakins of Vocal Fusion came up with the idea of a joint concert by the two choirs to help raise money for the St Michaels, Amberley church tower fund. They have been delighted to learn that Ken Burton will also be featuring at the concert. Ken, who lives in West Sussex, will be known to readers for his many TV appearances as a judge on The Choir: Sing while you work, Gospel Singers of the Year and Songs of Praise School Choir of the year. Ken has previously worked with the Citi UK singers , directs two London based choirs, is a guest conductor of the newly formed London Youth Choir and has led workshop choirs across the world, often being commissioned to write new pieces for them.
Ginny , who lives close to the church in Amberley , was a founder member of the Citi UK choir which was established in 2013 by Gareth Malone, competing with four other workplace choirs in his highly popular BBC television series: Sing While You Work. Reflecting on the start-up of the choir, Ginny said that the televised audition for the Citi UK choir with millions of viewers ‘has to be one of the scariest things I have ever done’. Now in its fifth year and led by top music professionals Dan Ludford-Thomas and Peter Mitchell, the choir have performed at charity concerts in New York City, Birmingham and at St James Palace in the presence of HRH Princess Alexandra. They have also performed alongside Gareth Malone’s professional choir at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo and at public concerts in London.
Vocal Fusion is directed by Steyning based choral director Zoe Peate , who is also the musical director of local choirs Cantatrice and Kaleidoscope Singers. Vocal Fusion sing a four part close-harmony acapella style and perform at festivals and concerts, primarily across Sussex and London and also regularly compete at the British Association Barbershop choral competition. Both Citi UK and Vocal Fusion also perform each year at the Brandenburg choral festival of London.
The concert on December 2nd will feature a repertoire of songs by each chorus together with a finale of the joint choirs, led by Ken Burton. Tickets are £12 (half price for under 18) ,include a welcome glass of fizz or wine and are available from the Amberley St Michaels web site at
